Jembatan Botijas
Botijas is the 3rd highest span along Mexico's amazing new
Durango-Mazatlán highway in Durango and Sinaloa states. The tollway has
cut a safer, more direct route through the mountains, improving trade
and increasing tourism between the city of Durango and the coastal city
of Mazatlán. To achieve this connection, the Mexican engineers were
forced to design an autopista with no less than 63 tunnels - nearly 10
times more than have ever been built on any road in North America. For
big bridge fans, the highway has several other towering concrete beam
bridges that exceed 300 feet (90 mtrs) in height including Santa Lucia,
Neverías, Chico, Pueblo Nuevo and El Carrizo. Of course the highway
will always be most famous for the cable stayed Baluarte Bridge which is
the highest span in North or South America with a deck 390 meters high.
