The Xixi River bridge is the second of 3 high crossings that have been built over this narrow crevasse in the northern region of Guizhou Province. The giant viaduct is part of a safer, more modern 4-lane expressway that bypasses the older 2-lane Guibi highway. This more direct route between Qianxi and Bijie has essentially made the original Guibi highway obsolete for all but local traffic. The original Guibi highway suspension bridge was completed in 2001 while a high speed railway arch on the new line between Chengdu and Guiyang is due for completion in 2019 and will be the highest of all the Xixi River crossings at 255 meters.
